T'ai Chi Ch'uan 2017

In this beginning level class students will learn a complete warm-up practice and a simplified (Introductory) practice of T'ai Chi Chuan. Upon completion students may elect to continue their studies with ongoing classes of an intermediate and advance level in which they will learn the more traditional short and long form practice of T'ai Chi Ch'uan as well as T'ai Chi Sword and Art of Chi Kung. The Art T'ai Chi Ch'uan may be practiced by students of all ages and is comminly known to develop leg strength, increase flexibility and balance, deepen breath, assist in physical relaxation and increase mental focus.

About the instructor: Gregory Hoffman, has been teaching T'ai Chi Ch'uan for over 30 years all around the world. For addition information contact Gregory at 310-614-3835.

Arnis Escrima Kali 2017 March-June

Students learn single and double stick techniques including disarming, twirling, sparring drills and bare-handed applications. Located at the Senior Center at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

All students must pay prior to class at the Recreation Center located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Tae Kwon Do 2017 March - June

Tae Kwon Do is designed to teach self-defense, coordination and self-confidence. This is a continuing course for beginners through advanced students. Loose clothing is required. Sign up at the Recreation Center located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Senior Center located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Drop-in rates are $6.00 for children and $10.00 for adults.

Zumba with Myee 2017

Aikido 2017 January - June

Aikido is a non-violent and noncompetitive Japanese martial art that
can be done by people of all ages and many levels of physical abilities.
Through Aikido training, you will learn to apply throws, wrist locks and redirections while learning how to move with grace and power. Staff/spear, sword and knife techniques round out a comprehensive martial curriculum. The training is designed for all levels of practitioners.
Sweats and t-shirts are recommended for those that wish to try training
and uniforms are available for committed students.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding June 2017

The purpose of this class is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants will be trained and certified to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illness until emergency services (EMS) personnel take over.

Participants must be 16 years of age, be able to swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythm breathing, tread water for two minutes using the legs only, and complete a timed event.

Class includes: A total of 24 hours of instruction. Session C class is a combination of hands on instruction and online learning. Upon successful completion, participants will receive the American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, good for two years. Attendance at all facility sessions and completion of all online lessons are two of a number of requirements necessary to successfully pass for certification.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Class June 2017

The American Red Cross Blended Learning Water Safety Instructor Class trains candidates to teach courses and presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program. The course helps develop instructors understanding of how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants' progress. Successful candidates are eligible to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn to Swim, adult swim classes, as well as the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses and other aquatic presentations. Participants must be at least 16 years of age, be proficient swimmers, and be able to successfully complete the pre-course session. Workshop includes 20 hours of facility time and 8 hours of online content.
Successful completion of this workshop includes the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate (valid for 2 years).

U.S. Masters Swimming 2017

The City of South Lake Tahoe Aquatics Facility is a qualified provider under U.S. Master Swimming (USMS) serving over 60,000 swimmers across the country. The local program is designed to provide structured swim workouts, instruction and feedback to participants. The program is tailored to those looking to improve fitness, work on swim technique, train for competitions, or simply meet like-minded swim enthusiasts. Participants are not required to become members od U.S. Master Swimming to participate however member benefits include insurance, Swimmer Magazine subscription, sanctioned events and access to 1,500 Master Swimming clubs around the country. Welcome to the City of South Lake Tahoe's registration site for Aquatics/Swimming, STAR Camp, and Recreation Center Facility Usage!

                 

 

Understand Your Child's Swimming Ability Level by clicking on and viewing these American Red Cross Guidelines: Swim Levels By Age and Ability.

Swim Lesson Overview:

  • Parent and Child Aquatics (PC)

    Ages 6 months - 3 years

    Familiarizes young children (ages 6 months - 3 years) to the water and prepares them for future Learn-to-Swim Programs. The course is a bonding experience that will leave everyone with wonderful life long memories.

  • Preschool Aquatics (PRE)

    Ages 4 - 5

    Consists of 3 levels, is an integral part of the over all Instructional Aquatic and Water Safety Program. The most elementary of aquatic skills are taught and built on as they progress through the courses with a strong focus on developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water.

  • Learn-to-Swim

    Ages 6 - 17

    Teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills in progression. It consists of 6 levels. Through out the levels participants build on their basic skills to learn various propulsive movements that are refined into the different recognized strokes and build endurance.

     

 

STAR Camp, Summer 2016:

  • SUMMER KICK-OFF: Monday, June 26th

  • AGES: 6-12 years (entering grades 1st-6th)

  • DAYS & HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm 

    (sign-in: 8:30am-9:30am; sign-out: 4:30pm-5:30pm)

  • PRICING: $35/day or $150/week; there is an additional cost for Fun Trips - prices are dependent upon location and subject to change

  • WHAT TO BRING: lunch & additional snack, swimsuit & towel, sun protective clothing, hat, tennis shoes, water bottle, & sunscreen.  Please leave electronic devices at home. 

  • REMINDER: Please ensure that your child eats a nourishing breakfast before arriving at camp and packs appropriate clothing for the day's activities.
